Multi-scale Modelling of the Ballistic Impact of One Single Kevlar Yarn
Published on
In this work, a multi-scale model of one single crimped Kevlar yarn under ballistic impact is developed. To gain the computation time, the yarn is divided into two parts. While the impact zone is simulated on the microscopic scale, the other zone is on the mesoscopic one. The multi-scale model is compared with the microscopic one in the literature. It is highlighted that the multi-scale model can predict both global and local behaviour of the yarn, such as fibre failure mechanism and the interaction between fibres. Also, the computation time reduces sharply. Therefore, this multi-scale model allows developing a meso-microscopic multi-scale model of a fabric with a reasonable computation cost in further works.
