Simulation of the behaviour of entangled media: some ongoing challenges
The development of Multifil software at LMPS is aimed at modelling and simulating the mechanical behaviour of entangled media, consisting of assemblies of thin slender structures. The motivation behind this approach, along with the tools and methods used to model the behaviour of thin structures (beams and ribbons) and their interactions (contact-friction, connections with a 3D matrix), will be presented. The challenges that still need to be explored will also be highlighted.
