Launch of the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics PSIA2

The PSIA2 Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, created in January 2022, aims to highlight scientific activities related to aerospace and its impacts within the perimeter of the Paris-Saclay institutions. This project is supported by the French aerospace research centre Onera, the Laboratoire de mécanique (LMPS) and LURPA laboratories of ENS Paris-Saclay, CentraleSupélec and the CNRS.

The Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics PSIA2

The Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (PSIA2), created in January 2022, aims to promote scientific activities related to aerospace and its impacts within the perimeter of the Paris-Saclay institutions.
It has three components: training, research, and promotion/communication with companies.

Pierre-Alain Boucard, director of the Laboratoire de Mécanique Paris-Saclay (LMPS) shares the coordination of the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics with Anne Tanguy, scientific director of the "Materials and Structures Domain" at ONERA and Sébastien Ducruix, director of the EM2C laboratory.

Scientific axes of the Institute

  • Axis 1: Propulsion/Energy which concerns the modes of propulsion of aeronautics and astronautics;
  • Axis 2: Fluids/Structures/Materials, which includes studies in fluid and solid mechanics for aircraft and in materials science for the architecture of all types of aeronautical and space vehicles;
  •  Axis 3: Control/Systems, which concerns the management and control of flight commands, the optimisation of isolated or swarmed trajectories, or the man/machine interface.

The common concern for the environmental and societal impacts of air mobility and space activities will be present in these three research axes.

The Institute is a partner of several of the University's Graduate Schools: GS Engineering Sciences and Systems - to which the Institute is directly attached -; GS Chemistry; GS Geosciences, Climate, Environment, Planets; GS Computer Science and Digital Sciences; GS Research and Higher Education. The Institute is also linked to GS Economics & Management, GS Mathematics and GS Physics.
